My entire career in the United States Senate has been guided by a single principle:  Nevada always comes first.  As Majority Leader, I am committed to doing everything I can to leverage my position and ensure that the needs of Nevadans are always met. 

I have been working on a number of initiatives throughout the state of Nevada to promote economic development, expand and improve health care, support education, and to protect the environment. Each community in Nevada faces a unique set of challenges. I am committed to helping Nevadans meet these challenges successfully.

• Throughout Northern Nevada, I continue to promote economic development—particularly in the mining and tourism industries. I have worked hard to expand and improve health care, to support education, to enhance the environment, and to improve transportation services.
  
  
• In Southern Nevada, I have successfully fought against the proposal to store nuclear waste at Yucca Mountain for over two decades because it threatened the health and safety of Nevadans and people across our nation. We are also focusing our attention on vital issues—economic growth, health care, and education to improve the quality of life for the residents of Esmeralda, Lincoln and Nye counties.
  
  
• In Western Nevada, a mix of urban and rural communities, I have been working for many years to restore Lake Tahoe--the jewel of the Sierra--to its fabled clarity. I’ll keep fighting every year to make sure Lake Tahoe gets the federal funding and attention it needs and deserves.
  
  
• Clark County is among the fastest-growing areas in the country. Nevadans’ ingenuity and hard work has driven this development and it will be essential in meeting the economic, educational, and other challenges associated with its growth. I am committed to doing all I can to give Clark County’s local officials, educators, first responders, and health care workers the support they need in improving the quality of life in Clark County.
