Reid pays tribute to fallen Capitol police officers
Senator Reid, a former Capitol police officer, paid tribute to Special Agent John Gibson and Officer Jacob Chestnut. Both dedicated officers gave their lives while protecting the Capitol 13 years ago.

Reid introduces Mark Wetjen at CFTC nomination hearing
It was a pleasure for me to introduce Mark Wetjen today at his nomination hearing before the Senate. Mark came to work in my office in the fall of 2004. He had been a successful lawyer working at a firm in Reno, but he was drawn to public service.

This year’s Summit will focus on the future of energy and will be held on Tuesday, August 30th at Aria Resort and Casino at CityCenter.

First CEO of Corporation for Travel Promotion Will Boost Nevada Tourism, Create Jobs
Last week, Jim Evans was named the first CEO of the Corporation for Travel Promotion. The move is a welcome sign for Nevada, whose economy stands to benefit from the thousands of jobs the new corporation will help create through tourism.

By saving DOE loan guarantee program, we protected clean energy jobs in Nevada
Today, we will pass a historic budget agreement that avoids a government shut down and cuts wasteful spending and excess. It represents the largest discretionary spending cuts since 1982. But it holds the line against House Republican proposed cuts to things like kids’ education and cancer research.

FBI crucial to fighting hate groups in Nevada
I was pleased to be joined by Southern Poverty Law Center founder Morris Dees today to highlight the prevalence of hate groups in Nevada and express concern at the reckless Republican spending plan (H.R. 1) to gut the FBI – the agency that monitors hate groups – by $133 million.
