Senator Reid met this week with the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) to discuss extending a federal loan guarantee program and the challenges investors face. SEIA companies rely on the federal loan program to improve and provide additional permanent jobs throughout the country. Senator Reid is working to provide this much needed assistance to the solar energy companies that have become an important part of Nevada’s economic growth.

This meeting comes after Senator Reid announced plans for two new renewable energy projects in Nevada. The senator’s efforts to bring new renewable energy companies and projects to Nevada have resulted in the creation of thousands of jobs. Senator Reid has been working to take advantage of Nevada’s abundance of renewable energy resources to create jobs and lower energy costs across the state.

The Department of Energy (DOE) announced yesterday that Fulcrum’s Sierra BioFuels plant has been approved to move to the final phase of the DOE loan guarantee program. When completed, the plant will create 53 full-time and more than 450 temporary jobs. The Amargosa Farm Road Solar Project is a second large-scale solar energy project to be built on public lands. The plant will provide power for 150,000 homes and create 1,300 jobs in Nye County.
