Posted by Sen. Reid's Staff  on 10/26/2010 - 4:51 PM

Senator Reid is taking the lead to fund the creation of the first high speed rail connecting Nevada and California.  High speed rail will create thousands of jobs in both states and will give Nevada an economic boost by easing travel between Southern California and Las Vegas. Increased tourism will bolster Nevada’s recovering economy.

Last week Senator Reid met with Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood to announce that the Desert Express project is pursuing federal loan guarantees from the U.S Department of Transportation. Today more progress is being made as Senator Reid announced that the Western High Speed Rail Alliance will receive more than $1 million to study the feasibility of the rail connecting the two states connect from Las Vegas to Victorville, and Victorville to its final destination in Palmdale.

The Alliance received a grant from the Department of Transportation to study and plan for the rail’s corridor moving the project closer to reality and closer to creating thousands of jobs. Senator Reid understands the economic impact of the Desert Express will have on Nevada’s economy and has showed great determination to get this project started.
