Millions of Americans have fought and sacrificed their lives while defending our country and Senator Reid honored those veterans today for their great contributions and courage. Senator Reid appreciates the sacrifice and risk that every service member takes when they choose to serve our country. Because of this, he has worked hard to give veterans the benefits that they deserve.
Reid has worked to expand eligibility for veterans and caregivers for health care benefits. He has also directed funding to expand and improve VA medical facilities in Nevada. Reid also led Congress in passing the Post 9/11 GI Bill that provides the cost of the highest tuition rates at any public university in the veteran’s home state as well as providing housing stipends for the cost of living. Today, Senator Reid welcomed the USO to its new home in Las Vegas at McCarran International Airport where troops and their families can have a place to relax and enjoy themselves while in transit. Reid was key in bringing the new USO Center to Las Vegas and has worked since 2007 to make it a reality.
“Nevada veterans have sacrificed so much and that’s why it’s my goal to ensure that they are receiving the best benefits possible. The new USO Center at McCarran represents the kind of benefits and comforts our military members and veterans deserve for the tremendous sacrifices they and their families have made,” said Reid. “I thank all of those who have served our country in the past as well as those currently serving in any capacity in our armed services both home and abroad. I thank the USO for their hard work and for collaborating to bring a new center to McCarran Airport. On this Veterans Day, I renew my commitment to America’s Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines as well as those who have served to provide support and much-deserved benefits until everyone comes home.”
