Posted by Sen. Reid's Staff on 7/14/2010 - 5:22 PM Senator Reid today met with Nevada tribal leaders at a meeting of the Democratic Steering and Outreach Committee. In attendance were 19 tribal leaders including two from Nevada: Robert Bear, Chairman of Shoshone-Paiute Tribes of the Duck Valley Reservation, and; Alvin Moyle, Chairman of Fallon Paiute-Shoshone Tribe. Senator Reid along with fellow senators and the tribal leaders discussed economic development, implementation of the Indian Health Care Improvement Act, public safety in Indian country, energy development on Indian lands, and education.
“It was great meeting with these tribal chairmen, on a government to government basis, to discuss how to implement the sweeping changes we made to Indian Health Service,” said Reid. “The changes we made to Indian health policy were long overdue and will go a long way toward improving the lives of Nevada’s Native Americans. Clean energy is also key to the economic development of our state and Nevada’s tribes. I will continue to work with Nevada’s tribes to improve economic conditions, health care and safety.”
