REID SOBRE LA DECISION DEL DEPARTAMENTO DE JUSTICIA Y LA COMISION FEDERAL DE COMUNICACIONES PARA PRESERVAR LA COMPETENCIA EN EL MERCADO DE COMUNICACIONES INALAMBRICAS

 Washington, D.C. – El Líder de la Mayoría en el Senado Harry Reid hizo las siguientes declaraciones después de que el Departamento de Justicia y la Comisión Federal de Comunicaciones decidieran  permitirle a Verizon la adquisición de una licencia de transmisión de las compañías de televisión por cable, asegurando que existan garantías para la competitividad.

 "Me complace que el Departamento de Justicia y la Comisión Federal de Comunicaciones hayan llegado a un acuerdo entre Verizon y varios proveedores de televisión por cable que ayudará a que nuestro país mantenga su posición como líder mundial en servicios inalámbricos, manteniendo la competencia. La economía más grande del mundo debe tener acceso a los mejores sistemas de comunicaciones del mundo. Esta decisión, así como la legislación que fue aprobada junto con los recortes sobre la nomina, ayudaran a que tengamos ese acceso. A medida que la industria de las telecomunicaciones continua evolucionando, debemos seguir trabajando para proteger la igualdad en el mercado y estas decisiones aseguran que se logre ese objetivo."

REID STATEMENT ON DOJ AND FCC DECISIONS TO PRESERVE COMPETITION IN THE WIRELESS MARKET

 Washington, D.C.- Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid issued the following statement today regarding the decisions of the U.S. Department of Justice and the Federal Communications Commission to allow Verizon to obtain airwave licenses from cable companies while requiring safeguards that promote competition:

 "I am pleased that the Department of Justice and the Federal Communications Commission reached an agreement between Verizon and several cable operators that will help our nation maintain its position as a global leader in wireless services while preserving competition.  The world's largest economy should have access to the world's best telecommunications systems.  This decision, as well as the spectrum auction legislation passed as part of the payroll tax extension, help ensure this.  As the telecommunications industry continues to evolve, we must always work to protect fairness in the marketplace and these directives achieve that goal."
