Washington, D.C. - Nevada Senator Harry Reid issued the following statement about the importance and the benefits of the Affordable Care Act.
Hello everyone, I am Senator Harry Reid. Beginning on October 1st, thanks to Obamacare, Nevadans wishing to purchase health care can do so on the health insurance marketplaces commonly referred to as exchanges. On these exchanges, you can find affordable insurance that works for your budget and fits your needs.
The State of Nevada set up its on exchange called Nevada Health Link. Once enrollment begins on October 1st, you can fill out one streamlined application on NevadaHealthLink.com. This same application will tell you if you are eligible for Medicaid, or if you can get lower monthly premiums through tax credits. You can compare plans side-by-side and see what your costs would be before you decide to enroll.
Nevadans are already seeing the benefits of the health care law. Because of Obamacare, seniors on Medicare have saved $41 million dollars on the prescriptions and they’ll see even more saving when the “donut hole” is closed completely in 2020. Because of Obamacare, more than 35,000 children in Nevada are no longer denied coverage because of a pre-existing condition. Because of Obamacare, more than 33,000 young adults were able to remain on their parents insurance until they are 26.
A third of all the uninsured in America are Latinos, 160,000 in Nevada alone. They’ll be eligible for insurance coverage through the exchange. If you are a Nevadan who needs health insurance make sure to visit NevadaHealthLink.com after October 1st to fill out your application. My office will be holding exchange and enrollment events throughout the state over the next few months.
If you have questions or need assistance enrolling, please attend one of these events. You can always call my office or visit my website, reid.senate.gov, if you need assistance. Thank you very much.
