Nevada Senator Harry Reid met with Sheriff Douglas Gillespie of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) to discuss Nevada’s law enforcement priorities and what resources they need to help keep Nevada’s communities safe. In 2010, Clark County received $1.5 million in Byrne Justice Assistance Grants, which channel federal justice funding to programs in law enforcement and other justice programs. Gillespie thanked Reid for also securing a $1 million earmark to upgrade the Shared Computer Operations Protection and Enforcement database, which is the main criminal records database used by Clark County law enforcement.
