Reid Meets With Nevada Rural Electric Association

Nevada Senator Harry Reid discusses renewable energy and efficiency with members of the Nevada Rural Electric Association.

Washington, D.C. - Nevada Senator Harry Reid met with members of the Nevada Rural Electric Association (NREA) today to discuss renewable energy, expanding high voltage transmission and climate change legislation. Reid met with attendees from Wells Rural Electric Company, Mt. Wheeler Power and the Valley Electric Cooperative, as well as Laurie Carson, chairwoman of the White Pine County Commission, and Elko County Commissioner Mike Nannini and discussed the role the NREA can play in establishing Nevada as the nation's leader in renewable energy as well as the challenges of serving 40,000 of the state's most rural customers.

"Nevada can lead the way in renewable energy, "said Reid. "We have abundant solar, wind and geothermal resources all over our state that can provide clean and affordable power. That's why I am working on legislation to plan, site and build transmission lines to move that power to the big population centers where it's in great demand. The jobs that will be created in engineering, construction, management and maintenance of these renewable energy lines will be helpful in getting Nevadans back to work."
