Nevada Senators Harry Reid and John Ensign today discussed a bill they are co-sponsoring to promote tourism in the United States. The Travel Promotion Act uses the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority model for marketing Las Vegas and applies it to the country as a whole. Speaking about Nevada's tourist destinations, Reid said, "we'll get more benefit than any state in the union."
The new Corporation for Travel Promotion would market the U.S. around the globe as a tourist destination. It would not cost tax payers a dime.
This bill will allow us to be more competitive in capturing the tourism market and increasing our share of the economic growth stimulated by this multi-billion dollar industry. This bill will also have a big impact on tourism in Nevada where more than 230,000 jobs, and the state budget, depend on tourism.
