Nevada Senator Harry Reid met today with boxing legend Sugar Ray Leonard and representatives from the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation’s Children’s Congress. The foundation sent Nevada kids to the Capitol to discuss diabetes research with their representatives. Leonard is testifying at a congressional hearing on Type 1 diabetes research. The disease affects more than 24 million children and adults in the United States each year.

The Nevada children representing the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation are Conner Wattles of Las Vegas, Taylor Schultz of Reno and Christian "Riley" Haase of Henderson. The group thanked Sen. Reid for his support of the Special Diabetes Program that supports Type 1 diabetes research and Type 2 treatment and prevention strategies in Native American and Alaska Native populations.
