To mark the 45th anniversary of Medicare and Medicaid this  week, Nevada Senator Harry Reid conveyed his commitment to strengthening and protecting these important programs for Nevada's families and seniors. In the 45 years since these programs were enacted into law, "I have fought to bolster and improve these programs on behalf of the millions of people they serve," said Reid. "I firmly believe that these programs have saved lives and saved money for people in Nevada and across the country." As a result of Reid's efforts to pass health care reform, the new laws extend the solvency of Medicare and close the Medicare Part D 'donut hole' to make prescription drugs more affordable.
