May 21, 2008 Washington, DC- Nevada Senators Harry Reid and John Ensign today announced a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) grant of more than $900,000 for the reconstruction of the airplane taxilanes at the Reno/Stead Airport. The money will extend the service life of the taxilanes and provide safe access to the aircraft parking area. “This grant will improve Reno/Stead Airport’s current condition and ultimately improve air travel throughout Nevada,” Reid said. “I commend the FAA for joining us in making air travel safer for Nevadans.” “I am pleased the FAA has secured the funding necessary to update portions of the Reno/Stead Airport,” Ensign said. “As an important traffic reliever for Reno/Tahoe International Airport, this grant will allow the Reno/Stead Airport to make improvements that keep the safety of the airport and its passengers the top priority.” Reno/Stead Airport is a 5,000-acre general aviation airport that is home to the Aviation Classics, the Bureau of Land Management, Nevada Kart Club and the Reno Air Racing Association. The airport is working to develop itself as a major economic hub in northern Nevada.
