Reid: Fiscally Responsible Democratic Budget Puts Middle Class First

June 4, 2008

Washington, DCNevada Senator Harry Reid made the following statement today after the U.S. Senate approved the conference report on the fiscal year 2009 budget resolution:

“The Democratic budget sets a new direction for our country: it restores fiscal discipline, strengthens the middle class, and invests in our future.  The budget creates surpluses without a penny of new taxes.  It makes college tuition and energy more affordable; it cuts middle-class taxes; and it invests in education, infrastructure, and our environment.

“Bush Republican policies have squeezed working families and saddled us with record debt.  It’s long past time to change course.  This budget puts the middle class first in a fiscally responsible way.”
