Reid joins thousands of Nevadans in celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month

Posted by Sen. Reid's Staff  on 9/21/2011 - 11:40 AM

Each year I look forward to the opportunity Hispanic Heritage Month offers to honor the contributions of a population that is such an integral part of our identify as a state and a nation.

For centuries, Latinos have helped shape the face of Nevada. From the classroom to the playing field, in our art and in our literature, at construction sites and mines, casinos and shopping centers, Latinos contribute to every facet of life and culture in Nevada.

The Spanish language even influenced the name of the state, which means “snow covered,” and refers to the snow-capped mountain peaks of our beautiful Sierra Nevada.

I’m pleased to join more than 700,000 Hispanic Americans in Nevada in celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month, a wonderful celebration of history and culture, today and everyday during this special month.
