In Nevada, we know that our economy and thousands of jobs depend our state’s wonderful tourist attractions. From the breathtaking Lake Tahoe to the vibrant Las Vegas Strip, we need the millions of visitors every year that stay in our hotels, eat in our restaurants, explore the state’s natural beauty, take in a show and have a good time with their families.

That’s why the Travel Promotion Act , which I led to passage in 2010, is so important. The legislation created a public-private partnership modeled after the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority called the Corporation for Travel Promotion. This new institution will market the tourist attractions in Nevada and the United Stated across the globe. This will lead to thousands of new jobs in Nevada since fifteen percent of international visitors already travel to Las Vegas.

Last week, Jim Evans was named the first CEO of the Corporation for Travel Promotion. Mr. Evans has broad experience building and executing successful and aggressive international marketing campaigns, and his abilities will help create jobs in Nevada and around the country.

I thank him for his service and look forward to even more tourists eagerly anticipating a trip to the world’s premier destinations – Las Vegas and Reno -- thanks to the success of the Travel Promotion Act.
