Developing our clean energy economy in Nevada is so important that I recently announced that, for the fourth consecutive year, I’ll be hosting the National Clean Energy Summit in Las Vegas. This year’s Summit will focus on the future of energy and will be held on Tuesday, August 30th at Aria Resort and Casino at CityCenter. We’re bringing national leaders to southern Nevada to illustrate and to continue the dialogue on the great benefits to consumers and the nation of implementing forward-thinking clean energy policies.

“National Clean Energy Summit 4.0: The Future of Energy” will chart a path to a clean energy future. Smart investments in electricity production and delivery, vehicles and the transportation system, energy-efficient buildings and homes, and new clean energy sources will lead to long-term savings, global economic competitiveness, and a diverse, thriving economy with high demand for workers.

We’re fortunate to have this important opportunity for national and state leaders to see firsthand how Nevada is a leader in building a 21st century clean energy future that can be emulated across the country. By capitalizing on our state’s vast renewable resources like wind, solar, and geothermal energy, we are creating good paying jobs, reducing our dependence on oil, lowering energy costs for consumers, and diversifying our economy to promote growth.

Nevada is no stranger to clean energy. In fact, Nevada’s oldest clean energy project – Hoover Dam – provided jobs for thousands of Nevadans during tough economic times as it was being built more than 80 years ago.

Today, in 2011, clean energy projects are once again creating jobs and helping our economy get back on the right track. I look forward to a robust discussion this month as we work to achieve the ambitious clean energy goals we’ve set for Nevada.
