Reid Statement On One-Year Anniversary of Haiti Earthquake

January 12, 2011

Washington, DC—Nevada Senator Harry Reid released the following statement today on the one-year anniversary of the earthquake in Haiti:

“Our thoughts are with the people of Haiti as we honor the memory of the hundreds of thousands who were lost, including more than one hundred Americans, and the many more who were injured or displaced from their homes. And we reaffirm our commitment to a rebuilding process that that will take a significant commitment from the Haitian government and the international community. We also commend the effort and sacrifice of rescue and reconstruction workers from Nevada and around the world who showed us the best side of humanity and worked to put a devastated nation on the road to recovery. While this unparalleled humanitarian effort has saved and improved lives over the last year, there is still significant work to be done to clear the rubble, provide adequate housing, improve coordination between all of the organizations and governments working in Haiti, and to ensure that aid dollars quickly go where they are most needed.”
