Reid Announces $700K Grant to Keep Highways Safe for Nevadans

January 20, 2012

Washington, DC – Nevada Senator Harry Reid today announced a $688,256 grant for safety measures that will keep Nevada highways safe for drivers and passengers. The grants will be used by the Nevada Department of Public Safety’s Office of Traffic Safety to address problem areas throughout the state identified by the Nevada Department of Transportation.

“Nevadans rely on our state’s roads every day, and I’m pleased that this grant will support our highways to keep travelers safe,” Reid said. “Our state’s economy is dependent on reliable means of transportation, which makes these resources crucial to the well-being of all Nevadans.”

The grant comes from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration as a part of the State and Community Highway Safety Grants. This program provides grants to assist states and communities in the development and implementation of highway safety programs designed to reduce traffic crashes, deaths, injuries and property damage.
