Reid Announces More Than $2 Million to Help Nevadans Lower Cost of Energy Bills

Funds will benefit low-income homeowners and renters

January 21, 2010

Washington, D.C. — Nevada Senator Harry Reid announced more than $2 million is headed to Nevada for low-income homeowners and renters to help them pay their energy bills. In addition to helping eligible families pay for home heating, cooling, and other energy costs, a small portion of the funds will help weatherize eligible families’ homes. Nevadans who are interested in taking advantage of these funds can apply through the Energy Assistance Program (EAP), run by the Nevada Department of Health and Human Services.

“This money provides much-needed relief for families in Nevada who are struggling to meet the costs of their energy bills,” Reid said. “This money will not only help people pay their power bills in the short term, but the weatherization funds will help them save money down the road by reducing energy consumption.”
