January 28, 2011 Washington, DC— Nevada Senator Harry Reid today released the following statement on National Earned Income Tax Credit Awareness Day: “The Earned Income Tax Credit keeps thousands of dollars in the pockets of middle class Nevadans and Americans,” Reid said. “This tax credit can provide much needed relief to families struggling to pay the bills and put food on the table. I encourage all Nevadans to take advantage of this credit and the free tax assistance being offered around the state.” Reid led passage of improvements to the tax credit two years ago as part of the Recovery Act and fought to extend it last month as part of the law that extends all tax cuts for middle class Nevadans. In 2008, 24.8 million taxpayers nationwide received Earned Income Credits totaling almost $51 billion, for an average credit of $2,046. ###
