Reid Cuts Additional $100 Million From Yucca Mountain Budget

February 23, 2009

Washington, D.C. – Nevada Senator Harry Reid today announced that he was successful in cutting an additional $100 million from the Yucca Mountain Project budget for FY09.  The initial request made by former President Bush was $494.7 million.  Due to Reid’s leadership, the final budgeted amount is $288.4 million, $206.3 million less than requested.

“For more than 20 years I have been fighting to protect Nevadans and end the wasteful spending that is the Yucca Mountain Project,” Reid said.  “I am pleased that I was able to further cut Yucca’s budget and help make brighter the light at the end of the tunnel.”
