Washington, D.C.- Nevada Senator Harry Reid met with members from Disabled American Veterans (DAV) of Nevada to discuss issues pertaining to the veterans community in the United States. DAV Nevada Department Commander Fred Wagar, DAV Nevada Legislative Chairman William Baumann, and DAV Nevada member Pete Buelle and his wife Karen attended.

“Soldiers make personal sacrifices to keep our nation safe, and Disabled American Veterans offers important resources to look after our courageous servicemen and women,” said Reid. “I will continue to work so all American military veterans are cared for after they return home.”

More than 230,000 veterans call Nevada home. Senator Reid has fought to ensure that veterans receive the retirement and health care benefits that they were promised when they enlisted.Since 2005, Senator Reid worked to secure more than $600 million for the construction on the new Southern Nevada Veterans Hospital in North Las Vegas. Senator Reid worked for years to bring a USO lounge to McCarran Airport, and recently celebrated the one-year anniversary of its opening. In 2011, Senator Reid led passage of the VOW to Hire Heroes Act of 2011, which provides tax credits to hire an unemployed or disabled veteran, so soldiers who fought bravely are able to find work after they transition from service.

DAV is a non-profit charity dedicated to building better lives for America’s disabled veterans and their families. The 1.2 million-member organization offers counseling on VA disability compensation, health care, pension, vocational rehabilitation and employment rights, education and other services free of charge.
