 Washington, D.C. –Nevada Senator Harry Reid today met with Nevada representatives of the Women Construction Owners and Executives Organization (WCOEO). Among the participants were President Theresa Kern, Vice President Rosemary Barbour, Secretary Caryn Boisen, National Associate Director-at-Large Kim Reome, past President Deborah Wilder, and National Regional Directors Deborah Bradley, Lee Cunningham, and Karen Corbin and 14 other members.
 
The WCOEO thanked Reid for his work to create jobs in the construction industry, particularly in the economic recovery package and the HIRE Act, which includes key provisions for construction companies. It provides tax breaks for employers who hire unemployed Nevadans; allows small businesses to write off the cost of large purchases, including heavy equipment; extends the Highway Bill to ensure funding for the completion and ground breaking of transportation projects; and it expands the Build America Bonds program to ensure funding for construction work on courthouses, schools and public safety buildings.

“As the senior Senator from Nevada, the state widely recognized as ground zero of the construction boom in the last two decades, I know how important your industry is,” Reid said. “In fact, right now, the Senate is working toward final passage of the HIRE Act which will benefit the construction industry with tax breaks and write-offs, help local governments finance highway and public safety projects, and provide incentives for the development and use of renewable energy.”

“Our new clean energy economy is growing and this will create thousands of jobs with the clean energy plants and new transmission lines that will need to be constructed. Recognizing the construction industry as one of Nevada’s cornerstones, these bills will provide stable employment to thousands out of work and will speed the recovery of the economy.”
