Reid, Ensign Announce Grant Funding For Noise Reduction Efforts At Reno/Tahoe Airport

March 25, 2010

Washington, DC – Nevada Senators Harry Reid and John Ensign today announced that the U.S. Department of Transportation has awarded a $6 million grant to the Reno/Tahoe International Airport.  The funds will be used on noise mitigation measures designed to reduce the impact of noise on residents who live near the airport.

“As the economy continues to recover and more people fly in and out of the Reno/Tahoe airport, these measures will help reduce the impact of noise on Nevadans who live nearby,” Reid said.  “I thank the Department of Transportation for making the funds available for this important project.”

"Nevada has always been a tourism-dependent state and we hope that with the passage of the Tourism Promotion Act, our tourism numbers will continue to rise," said Ensign.  "This will mean that more people will be flying in and out of the Reno/Tahoe Airport to enjoy the wonderful and beautiful surroundings of Lake Tahoe and all that this part of our state has to offer.  This grant will help to ensure that we can effectively help to mitigate the noise from the airport so as not to disturb the residential life for the many Nevadans who live around the airport."
