Washington, D.C.- Nevada Senators Harry Reid and John Ensign, and Representatives Shelley Berkley and Dean Heller will host Academy Information Days in both southern and northern Nevada on Saturday, March 7. The events give high school sophomores and juniors interested in a military education a chance to ask questions and discover the opportunities available to them at the United States’ service academies.

“Our military men and women are the best in the world and recognized for their leadership and bravery,” Ensign said.  “The United States’ service academies provide an opportunity for young adults to pursue a higher education while developing a strong work ethic and character in the process.  I encourage interested students, and their parents, to attend this informative event to have their questions answered and to better gauge whether this is the right choice for them.”

The events are designed to help students learn about the enrollment, nomination and education processes involving the service academies.

“Academy Day is a wonderful opportunity for parents and students to find out more about our service academies,” Reid said.  “These academies offer the best education you can get anywhere in the world.  Not only are the academics unsurpassed, but in leadership training, they are the best.”

“This is an exciting event for young Nevadans looking to embark on the path toward a college education and enhanced personal growth while attending one of America’s Military Academies,” Berkley said. “This day is special for parents as well, who proudly support their children’s desire both to serve our country and receive a world class education at one of these remarkable institutions of higher learning.  I wish these Nevada students and their families the best of luck on this journey.”

“Academy Information Day helps young Nevadans receive an education at our nation’s military academies.  Having family members that currently serve in the Armed Forces, I understand and truly appreciate the journey that these young Nevadans are about to embark on.  It is a privilege to recommend our military’s future officers,” Heller said.

The northern event will be held at 9 a.m. at the Silver and Blue Room in Lawlor Events Center, University of Nevada, Reno, North Virginia at 15th Street. The southern event will be held at 6 p.m. at Nicholas Horn Theater at College of Southern Nevada, 3200 E. Cheyenne Ave., in Las Vegas.
