Las Vegas, NV– Nevada Senator Harry Reid today announced that the Elko County Fire Protection District will receive $577,678 from the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Federal Emergency Management Agency to help fire departments retain or hire firefighters. The grant is part of DHS’ Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response program (SAFER) that will help counties like Elko reach and maintain 24-hour staffing to protect residents from fire and fire-related hazards. “I thank Secretary Napolitano for helping us protect the jobs of those who protect us,” Reid said. “Our first responders put their lives on the line when we need them the most. This grant will create jobs and help firefighters keep Elko’s communities safe.” # # #
