Reid Statement on Nevada’s Decreasing Unemployment Rate

April 18, 2011

HONG KONG, CHINA – Nevada Senator Harry Reid today made the following statement on the news that Nevada’s unemployment rate fell to 13.2 percent in March. Employers added 7,600 (seasonally adjusted) new jobs in March.  It’s the largest one-month increase since September 2005.

“Today’s news that Nevada’s unemployment rate is continuing to decrease is another sign that our state’s economy is on the road to recovery,” said Reid.  “It’s a clear indication that we must continue to keep our eye on the ball and never stop pursuing the policies that we know are putting Nevadans back to work.  That’s one of the reasons I’m traveling throughout China this week - to look for additional renewable energy opportunities that can create good paying jobs in Nevada.  With abundant natural resources like solar, wind and geothermal energy, Nevada is the ideal location for clean energy deployment and I will never stop working to bring these new industries and investments to the Silver State.  There is much more work to be done, but by working together we can ensure that every Nevadan looking for work can find it.”
