April 22, 2010 Washington D.C.— Nevada Senator Harry Reid today announced that the University of Nevada Las Vegas has been awarded a $405,488 research grant from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases to study transcriptional silencing and anti-silencing mechanisms in Shigella. “At a time when education budgets are being slashed across the board, it’s important that we continue to support the valuable research that would not happen without federal funding,” Reid said. “I’m pleased that UNLV has been awarded funding that will support studying these mechanisms over the next three years.”
