Washington, D.C.- The following are Nevada Senator Harry Reid’s remarks as prepared for delivery introducing Jennifer Dorsey before the Senate Judiciary Committee as a nominee for the U.S. District Court for the District of Nevada:
Thank you Chairman Leahy, Ranking Member Grassley and members of the committee.
It is a pleasure to be here today to introduce Jennifer Dorsey, nominee for the U.S. District Court for the District of Nevada.
I have no doubt Ms. Dorsey will be a distinguished public servant and a valuable addition to the United States District Court.
Ms. Dorsey is a Las Vegas native. Her father was stationed at Nellis Air Force Base after Vietnam, and chose to start his family in Nevada.
She graduated from Chaparral High School and cum laude from the University of Nevada Las Vegas.
She was the first member of her family to graduate from college.
She also served as a Congressional intern for my friend and former colleague, Senator Richard Bryan.
Ms. Dorsey attended Pepperdine University School of Law, where she was a member of the Pepperdine Law Review.
After graduation, she returned to Las Vegas entered private practice, excelling first as an associate and now as a partner at her well-credentialed firm, Kemp Jones & Coulthard.
She is the first and only female partner at the firm.
Jennifer Dorsey specializes in civil litigation, complex commercial disputes, appeals and class actions.
Ms. Dorsey has a sterling reputation among her peers in Nevada, and has been recognized by judges at the state and federal level for her legal writing, advocacy, ethics, and professionalism.
In fact, she even serves on the Nevada Supreme Court’s Committee on Professionalism.
In addition to her professional work, Ms. Dorsey is committed to her community.
She was honored as a co-recipient of the Legal Aid of Southern Nevada Pro Bono Project’s Vince Consul Memorial Award in 2011 for her countless hours of pro bono service.
And she currently serves on the UNLV Foundation Advisory Board and the Pepperdine School of Law’s Board of Visitors.
I am impressed with her dedication to the state of Nevada, her community and the legal profession.
Ms. Dorsey will make an outstanding federal judge for Nevada
And I look forward to her swift confirmation.
