Washington, DC— Nevada
Senator Harry Reid released the following statement this evening after joining
several Senate colleagues to introduce a framework of concrete, bipartisan
ideas to reform America’s broken immigration system: “Every
day Nevadans see that our immigration system is broken, and they want Democrats
and Republicans to work together on a comprehensive, national solution to
protect America’s economic and national security. That’s why Senator
Schumer has worked for months with significant Republican input to develop this
framework that we are presenting today - because the time is now for us to fix
our broken system. It is vital for us to secure our borders, get tough on
those here illegally, and impose tough sanctions on employers who abuse
immigrants and use them to undercut the wages of Nevada workers. “Like
many other issues, immigration reform cannot pass the Senate without bipartisan
support, and the American people are counting on Democrats and Republicans to
work together toward practical solutions. I know that this is a tough,
complex issue but Nevadans sent me to Washington to confront our nation’s challenges
in a bipartisan way. Our immigration system is broken and we need to fix
it.” ###
