Award recognizes senator’s efforts on Breast Cancer and Environmental Research Act

April 30, 2008

Washington, DC – Nevada Senator Harry Reid was presented with an award for his work on the Breast Cancer and Environmental Research Act by the National Breast Cancer Coalition.

“It is an honor to receive this award,” Reid said.  “Studying links between breast cancer and the environment is could be critical to improving our knowledge of this complex illness, which could lead to better prevention, treatment and perhaps one day, a cure.  I first introduced the Breast Cancer and Environmental Research Act in 2001 with Senator Chafee, and today, this bipartisan bill has 68 cosponsors.  It is unconscionable that one Republican is blocking our effort to debate legislation that has the support of more than two-thirds of the Senate.  This opposition is keeping us from moving closer to the day when we can cure this terrible disease.  Our mothers, daughters and sisters deserve better.”
