Reid Statement On Oil Spill On Gulf Of Mexico

April 30, 2010

Washington, DCNevada Senator Harry Reid released the following statement this afternoon in reaction to the recent oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico:

“Like many Nevadans and Americans, I am watching the recent events regarding the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico with great concern.  I was saddened to learn about the terrible loss of life and send my condolences to the loved ones of those who perished.  I am also alarmed by the environmental impact of this incident and its potential to get even worse in the coming days.

“This terrible event will, undoubtedly, require us to re-examine how we extract our nation's offshore energy resources and will have to be taken into consideration with any legislation that proposes to open new areas to development. I am pleased that the Obama Administration has swiftly deployed significant federal resources to help minimize and contain this incident.  We will continue to follow the developments in the Gulf of Mexico closely.”
