 Washington, D.C.- Nevada Senator Harry Reid today announced that the City of Reno will receive a $13,707,520 grant that will allow Reno to retain 64 firefighters and open all 14 fully staffed fire stations starting July 1. The funding comes from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and is part of The Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response Grants (SAFER) program. SAFER provides funding to local fire departments and volunteer firefighter interest organizations to help them increase the number of trained firefighters.

“This is important news for the City of Reno,” said Reid. “It is crucial that first responders are prepared to handle severe fire and emergency scenarios and this grant will allow Reno to have the resources necessary to keep local residents safe. I am grateful to all of Nevada’s first responders for continually putting their lives on the line for our communities.”
