May 3, 2012 Washington, D.C.- Nevada Senator Harry Reid today announced that the City of Reno will receive a $13,707,520 grant that will allow Reno to retain 64 firefighters and open all 14 fully staffed fire stations starting July 1. The funding comes from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and is part of The Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response Grants (SAFER) program. SAFER provides funding to local fire departments and volunteer firefighter interest organizations to help them increase the number of trained firefighters.
