Reid:  Democrats Fight To Keep Strong Consumer Protections In Wall Street Accountability Bill

May 6, 2010

Washington, DCNevada Senator Harry Reid released the following statement today after Democrats led the defeat of the Shelby amendment that would have weakened consumer protections in Wall Street accountability legislation:

“With Democrats leading the defeat of the Shelby amendment today, Nevadans can rest assured that we are standing up for consumers and defeating Republican attempts to include special deals for Wall Street executives. The Republican plan would have gutted consumer protections and carved out exemptions for virtually all of Wall Street – allowing the same reckless behavior to continue that caused many Nevadans to lose their homes, their jobs and their retirement savings.  Senate Democrats are focused on making this good bill even better, and we will not allow Republicans to water down efforts to hold Wall Street accountable.”
