Reid:  Democrats Are Fighting To Make Sure That Nevada Taxpayers Never Again Have To Pay For Wall Street Greed

May 5, 2010

Washington, DCNevada Senator Harry Reid released the following statement today regarding Senate Democrats’ efforts to ensure that taxpayers will never again be forced to bail out big banks:

“Today Democrats reaffirmed our commitment to make sure that taxpayers in Nevada and across America are never again forced to pay for the mistakes of Wall Street. Senate Democrats have made our point crystal clear: no more taxpayer bailouts.

“I hope today’s votes signal that Republicans will drop their objections and get serious about holding Wall Street accountable.  There are no more excuses for Republicans to make to justify protecting Wall Street. Instead of meeting in secret with big bank lobbyists and executives to kill reform, they should be working with us to ensure that the strong consumer protections and big bank accountability already in this bill remain.

“Senate Democrats will continue to fight any efforts to water down this bill, and we look forward to completing this debate and proceeding to a final vote in the coming days.”
