Reid Statement On Armed Forces Day

May 15, 2010

Washington, D.C. – Nevada Senator Harry Reid today made the following statement in honor of the 60th anniversary of Armed Forces Day:

“In celebration of the 60th anniversary of Armed Forces Day, I thank the military servicemen and women stationed in Nevada, throughout the nation and across the globe for their service.  The members of our armed forces have the toughest job in the nation. No other job requires as much sacrifice, time away from loved ones and loyalty to our country and its principals. To Nevada’s soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines serving at home and overseas, as well as the incredible families who support them, I salute your courageous commitment to keep our communities safe and defend America.”

Held annually on every third Saturday in May, Armed Forces Day recognizes individuals who are active duty, in reserve and in the National Guard. Nevada is home to several major military installations including Nellis Air Force Base, Fallon Naval Air Station, Creech Air Force Base, Hawthorne Army Depot, Tonopah Test Range, and numerous National Guard facilities throughout the state that employ over 14,000 military personnel.
