Reid: Troop-Funding Bill Will Give Military Tools They Need to do Their Jobs and Make America Safer

May 21, 2009

Washington, DC -- Nevada Senator Harry Reid made the following statement today after the Senate passed the Emergency Supplemental Appropriations bill:

“This bill expresses Democrats’ commitment to strengthening our military, rebuilding our standing in the world and reducing key security threats.  It will give our brave troops – including the nearly 1,000 men and women from Nevada serving in Iraq, Afghanistan and here at home – the resources they need to do their jobs and return home safely.

“We are also making critical investments to make sure we are prepared for a pandemic, strengthen the security along our borders, and support counterterrorism programs both at home and abroad.

“The American people have resoundingly rejected eight years of a reckless foreign policy, and they demanded change.  This evening, Democrats took yet another important step to deliver that change.”
