Washington, DC—Nevada Senator Harry Reid released the following statement this evening after the Senate passed the Supplemental Appropriations Act: “Hundreds of Nevada families know all too well the sacrifice of sending a loved one into battle to defend America. And when we ask those troops and those families to give so much to our country, we have a solemn obligation to do everything possible to support them. That’s why it was so important for us to pass this supplemental bill that ensures that the additional 30,000 troops we’re sending into Afghanistan have everything they need to be successful in their mission. “Along with critical support for our troops, this bill sends over $5 billion to our local communities for disaster preparedness and relief. Already this year, we’ve seen devastating floods through the Midwest and Southeast cause billions in damage and impact the lives of thousands of middle-class families. Passage of this bill will provide critical reinforcements to those affected regions of the country. “I commend my Republican colleagues who voted for this bill and put aside partisan rancor to join Democrats in making sure that our troops can be successful and our communities are prepared for natural disasters.” ###
