Reid Announces $1.2 Million For Carson City Airport Safety Upgrades

July 5, 2011

Washington, D.C. –  Nevada Senator Harry Reid today announced a $1.27 million grant to continue upgrading the safety of Carson City Airport.  The Federal Aviation Administration grant allows the continuation of construction of a parallel taxiway that will eliminate the need for aircraft to backtrack on the runway, which poses safety risks.

“These much needed resources will allow work to be finished on a new taxiway that will improve the safety of Carson City Airport and the many passengers that fly into this important each year,” Reid said.  “Carson City Airport, with its proximity to Lake Tahoe, is crucial to thousands of jobs and the economic vitality of the region.  We need to do everything we can to ensure that Nevada’s airports are safe, reliable and capable of serving the tourism and business needs of our state.”
