Reid Announces More Than $4 Million For Repairs, Noise Reduction At Reno-Tahoe Airport

June 15, 2011

Washington, D.C. – Nevada Senator Harry Reid today announced $4.2 million dollars for Reno-Tahoe International Airport for noise reduction and repairs to the apron that will mitigate noise pollution for nearby residents and improve the airport’s infrastructure.

“These grants could not come at a better time for Nevada,” Reid said. “As our economy continues to pick up steam and more tourists choose to visit Reno, it’s important to ensure that the Reno-Tahoe International Airport is capable of serving them while ensuring that those living near the airport don’t encounter undue noise pollution from increased traffic. While we continue moving toward recovery and creating jobs, we must do everything we can to support Nevada’s tourism industry and that begins by supporting our state’s airports.”

BACKGROUND

Last October, Reid cut the ribbon on an air traffic control tower at Reno-Tahoe International Airport to further accommodate increased traffic to Lake Tahoe, Reno and other attractions in Northern Nevada.

Reid led passage of the Travel Promotion Act in 2010 in order to boost Nevada’s economy by attracting more tourists to the Silver State.
