Reid: Bill That Cuts Spending, Creates Jobs Should Have Resounding Bipartisan Support

June 16, 2011

Washington, D.C. - Nevada Senator Harry Reid released the following statement on the Economic Development Administration reauthorization, which will cut the deficit by nearly $1 billion while creating jobs:

“This was already a good bill because it creates jobs, but today’s vote makes it even better. Now it cuts the deficit as well. With Republicans endorsing our position that we can cut the deficit by cutting spending that occurs through the tax code, I hope they will join Democrats in eliminating taxpayer giveaways to big oil companies that are raking in record profits.  That is certainly a more responsible way to reduce the deficit than cutting seniors’ benefits and ending Medicare.”
