Reid Secures Nearly $60,000 To Help Sparks Firefighters Prevent Wildfires

 Washington, D.C. – Senator Harry Reid today announced $57,110 to help the Sparks Fire Department fight wildfires and improve safety. This grant will help strengthen the fire department’s ability to respond to fire and fire related hazards. In addition, the money will be used to acquire response equipment, training, vehicles, and fund fire prevention activities.

“These critical resources will help ensure Nevada’s firefighters have the tools they need during wildfire season,” Reid said. “I thank all of Nevada’s first responders for continually putting their lives on the line to help keep our communities safe.”

BACKGROUND:

•   The city of Sparks receives this $57,110 grant from the Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency under the FY 2010 Fire Prevention & Safety program initiative included in the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program.

•   The purpose of the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program is to enhance the safety of the public and firefighters with respect to fire and fire-related hazards.
