Boxer, youth discuss diabetes research with Reid June 24, 2009
Nevada Senator Harry Reid and boxing champ Sugar Ray Leonard meet with Riley Haase of Henderson. Riley is a member of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Leonard works with the foundation to promote diabetes research. Washington, D.C.—Nevada Senator Harry Reid met today with boxing legend Sugar Ray Leonard and representatives from the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation’s Children’s Congress, Conner Wattles of Las Vegas, Taylor Schultz of Reno and Christian “Riley” Haase of Henderson. The children are in Washington as a part of the annual “Children’s Congress” for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Leonard is testifying at a congressional hearing on Type 1 diabetes research. The group thanked Sen. Reid for his support of the Special Diabetes Program that supports Type 1 diabetes research and Type 2 treatment and prevention strategies in Native American and Alaska Native populations. Diabetes affects more than 24 million children and adults in the United States each year.
