Reid Announces Funds to Help Nevada’s Homeless Veterans

June 29, 2009

Las Vegas, Nevada—Nevada Senator Harry Reid today announced that the Department of Labor has awarded $170,000 to the United States Veterans Initiative in Las Vegas to address the problems of homelessness among Nevada’s veterans.

The funds are a product of The Homeless Veterans’ Reintegration Program (HVRP), administered by the Assistant Secretary for Veterans’ Employment and Training and the Department of Labor.

The grant will help to enroll Nevada veterans in programs ranging from substance abuse counseling and treatment to employment assistance and housing.

The HVRP program will require the United States Veterans Initiative to use all resources available in the community for veteran assistance including partnerships with faith-based groups, local organizations, and social service agencies.

Regions to be served include Las Vegas, North Las Vegas, Henderson, Boulder City, Clark County, and Nevada.

“It is a shame that our veterans too often don’t get the help they need,” said Reid. “With these resources we can redouble our efforts to serve those who served this country, no matter what situation they find themselves in.”
