Reid Announces Designation Of Interstate 11 In Transportation Bill

June 29, 2012

Washington, DC— Senator Reid issued the following statement after the Senate and House approved the Transportation Jobs Bill conference report, a bipartisan bill which includes a designation for Interstate 11 that connects Las Vegas and  Phoenix.

“For years, I have worked with local stakeholders to make Interstate 11 a reality. I fought long and hard to get this provision included in the transportation bill and I am pleased the House agreed to keep my Senate provision. Connecting two of the largest cities in the Southwest by Interstate will create good-paying jobs, increase commerce, and significantly boost tourism to our state. This is a great day for Nevada.”

Background:
The Transportation Jobs Bill conference report is a compromise between the Senate and House versions of the bill. The bill passed the Senate by a vote of 74-19. The two-year transportation bill will create or save 2.8 million American jobs,  many of them in the hard-hit construction industry. The legislation will also restore millions of miles of crumbling roadways, railways and bridges across the United States.
