Funds will provide short term assistance to prevent homelessness and allow those without homes to be re-housed

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Nevada Senator Harry Reid released the following statement today following the announcement by U.S. Housing and Urban Development Secretary Shaun Donovan that Nevada would be receiving more than $7.5 million in economic recovery funding to fight homelessness.

“Secretary Donovan visited Nevada last week, and during our meeting, he saw firsthand the seriousness of the situation in our state,” Reid said. “In our conversations I expressed my desire for action to be taken on behalf of Nevadans who are currently experiencing, or are on the brink of homelessness, and I’m pleased to announce that more than $7.5 million is on the way to help alleviate the suffering.

“This short-term financial assistance not only helps stabilize the living situations of those worried about losing their homes or those who are already displaced, but also saves taxpayers money in the long run.”
