Reid Announces $10.5 Million To Improve Safety At McCarran Airport

July 13, 2011

Washington, D.C. – Nevada Senator Harry Reid today announced $10,489,054 to improve safety at McCarran International Airport in support of two projects that will rehabilitate airplane taxiways and make improvements to the parking area for aircrafts while they load and unload passengers.

“Investment in the safety of Nevada’s airports not only creates jobs, but boosts Nevada’s overall economy by giving visitors the confidence to continue flying to the world’s premier tourist destination,” said Reid. “As our economy picks up steam, we must do everything we can to ensure travelers choose Las Vegas as their vacation or business destination. That begins by ensuring that our airports have everything they need to keep our visitors safe and secure.”

BACKGROUND:

In May, Senator Reid broke ground on a new, state-of-the-art air traffic control tower at McCarran International Airport. This project will create hundreds of good-paying jobs for Nevadans.

Senator Reid led passage of the Travel Promotion Act in 2010 in order to boost Nevada’s economy by attracting more tourists to the Silver State.
