More Than $5 Million in Economic Recovery Funding Headed to Nevada to Enhance Local Transit

Funds will create jobs, increase operational efficiency of Nevada Department of Transportation

July 17, 2009

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Nevada Senator Harry Reid released the following statement today following the announcement by U.S. Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood of more than $5 million dollars to purchase 32 new buses as well as fuel tanks and bus shelters.

“This is a much-needed investment in Nevada transportation that will also create jobs.  That’s welcome news on a day we learned that our state’s unemployment rate has hit 12 percent,” Reid said. “This new fleet of buses is going to benefit Nevadans all across the state, allowing them to get to work more quickly and safely.  I appreciate Secretary LaHood’s partnership in addressing Nevada’s transportation needs and look forward to working with him on future job-creating projects.”
